Political Gravitas

I think we should treat Chris Brown just like we treated Ike Turner up until he died. Chris Brown should be a social pariah, his name should be associated with abuse jsut like Ike Turner. So many people are out here defending him. When are we ging to wake up and take seriously the systemic and structural violence that affects our girls and women. This silly shit pisses me off even more because folks are defending a man that severely beat, battered, choked and bit a black woman. He threatened to kill her. He has show no remorse. Look at his antics upon receiving a Grammy he didn’t deserve. He lashed out again. Clearly his “hours of anger management” help. And I’m not the one to advocate for throwing any black men in prison/jail, but I’ve heard of non-violent drug offenders that serve time. He beat the fuck out of a woman and she had to go to the hospital, and he got off so easy. You all need to stop operating under the assumption that Chris Brown has a right to fame. NO! He has a right to move on with his life…out of the public spotlight. He can go to college, he can get a regular job that doesn’t require fame. His only right is to not be harassed, and to be allowed to make a living. He does not have any right to live out his dreams of being famous. I think the most trouble part of all this is that girls who are his fans are developing a severely flawed mind-set. I think if we made it quite clear that his behavior is completely unacceptable, then maybe these silly little girls would think twice about putting up statuses like “Chris Brown can beat me anytime” or “Rihanna is stupid; Chris Brown’s sexy self can abuse me all he wants.” We need to think about the messages we are sending.
It’s really easy to cop out and say “parents need to provide the images their kids get, and correct them on the wrong ones.” It’s easy and overly simplistic. We are all influenced by what we see on tv and in the media/movies. Most of us are adults and still pick up on and receive reinforcement from those messages, but somehow we expect kids to be so much better and wiser? Please, GTFOH with that mess.
I don’t think these random white people should be threatening to kick Chris Brown’s ass and I don’t think folks should harm him physically. But why shouldn’t he suffer economically? He doesn’t need anymore money from music. He can work a regular job like anyone else. So, in essence: Fuck Chris Brown. And those folks that are calling for violence toward him need to back off and leave him alone physically.

Should We Keep Punishing Chris Brown?
Or is the criticism doing more harm than good?

I personally think it is doing more harm than good. This is just a justified version cyber bullying. Some say he has yet to be punished for his crimes, yet he has been blacked listed from almost every award show in the U.S for the past three years. He is still on probation for beating Rihanna. He had to undergo 52 weeks of Anger Management and serve community service. Not only that, but blogs like TMZ and RadarOnline.com, consistently remind us as readers of that unfortunate night three years ago. Even when Chris Brown does some good, people/bloggers feels as though he should not be praised for the good work he’s done. Over Kill Much?
And another thing, what Miranda Lambert said about her daddy teaching her how to use a shotgun implies that Chris Brown should have been shot or killed for beating Rihanna. Not to mention he was recently involved in a twitter war with some WWE wrestler named CmPunk. Punk basically wanted to beat the crap of Chris Brown for “charity”.
The unexplored irony, violence, whether with the threat of a shotgun or a beat down for under the guise of “charity”, is not the answer. Isn’t violence, specifically Domestic Violence, the reason Chris Brown is in the mess to being with?

That is all.

The HuffPost reported that some writer has put up a $1,000 reward for anyone that beats up Chris.
This shit has gone too far.
The lessons obviously haven’t been learned after Michael and Whitney.
